Novembertagung 2010
Novembertagung 2010 , 3.-7. November, Mainz
Organisers: Eva Kaufholz and Philipp Kranz
General information
The Novembertagung is a conference for doctoral students and young postdocs working in the History of Mathematics and related subjects. The informal and friendly atmosphere enables the participants to discuss relevant topics concerning research and the process of writing a doctoral thesis in general.
This year’s topic – Lost in Translation: Writing the History of Mathematics in Languages and Notations of the 21st Century – was agreed upon at the last Novembertagung in Enschede. We want to discuss the problems that can arise when bridging the gap between a historic author and a modern reader and look forward to the various solutions that will be presented at this year’s conference.
All participants are kindly invited to give a talk, even if the topic is not related to the theme of the conference. Due to his long standing connection with the Novembertagung, we are very happy to announce that Prof. Henrik Kragh Sørensen from the University of Aarhus will be our invited guest speaker.
The participants will meet on Wednesday evening at 7pm in the bar at the Hotel. If you expect to arrive very late, please let us know beforehand, so we can arrange for a deposit of the key to your room. The conference ends on Sunday around noon.
Please note the change of rooms! The Novembertagung will take place in the Hilbertraum (05-432) in the Mathemtatics building (Staudingerweg 9). On Thursday afternoon we will be in the Medienraum (03-431) in the Physics Building (Staudingerweg 7) !
